Brussels

The first DEPLOYTOUR High Level Event will take place in Brussels on the 18th of November and aims to strengthen the political and technical dialogue among EU Member States, European institutions and key stakeholders of the DEPLOYTOUR project. The event serves a dual purpose:

Political: to promote a shared vision for the development of a European Data Space for Tourism, by reinforcing the role of Member States in building a responsible and multi-level data governance system
Technical: to present the progress of the project’s work streams, including tools, use cases and operational recommendations.

Each technical session will feature structured discussions among work package coordinators, project partners and representatives of the Interministerial Committee.

This webinar marks the launch of the Gaia-X Tourism Ecosystem’s White Paper on Data Governance for Tourism Governance, a strategic document that explores how robust, decentralised, and sovereign data infrastructures can support smarter decision-making and collaborative innovation across Europe’s fragmented tourism landscape. Drawing on the European Data Strategy and the Gaia-X Framework, the white paper outlines how digital sovereignty, openness and interoperability can help public authorities, Destination Management Organisations (DMOs), and private actors work together more effectively—while preserving trust and transparency. The publication presents a path forward for overcoming long-standing challenges such as data silos, lack of interoperability, and resistance to data sharing. Smart Destination Day, organized by DEPLOYTOUR partner, the Travel Innovation Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, is the leading event dedicated to destination management innovation in Italy. This year, for the first time, it becomes a European appointment, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the continent. The event will feature a presentation of the Observatory’s research and collect relevant best practices and successful applications on: - Digital strategies and tools to tackle unbalanced tourism - AI and data-driven approaches for sustainable destination development It will also be the opportunity to discover DEPLOYTOUR and its main actions to deploy the Common European Tourism Data Space. The workshop will proceed in the afternoon with working tables among DMOs and experts reserved for on-site participants (in Florence). Registration for the event is mandatory. "This webinar focused on the transformative impact of data sharing in the tourism sector and how the European Data Strategy is being implemented across the tourism value chain. As part of the T4T Tourism Transition Pathway, DEPLOYTOUR coordinator Dolores Ordoñez from AnySolution, co-lead of the T4T Digital Subgroup, moderated two insightful roundtables on the EU Tourism Data Space and best practices in data sharing. Dr. Misa Labarile shared the European Commission’s expectations for DEPLOYTOUR, emphasizing the creation of a data space to enable data flow, fostering synergies with other initiatives, demonstrating the potential of data, and moving towards a Data Union. Real-world examples from the Canary Islands, Dubrovnik, and the Netherlands highlighted how data can enhance destination management and drive innovation in tourism."

Global Data Spaces Connect 2024, hosted by the Data Intelligence Offensive (DIO) in collaboration with IDSA and iSHARE, brought together global experts, innovators, and decision-makers to explore the future of data sharing. In an ever-evolving digital world, the intelligent use and secure management of data play a pivotal role in market transformation and sovereign management of data, and best practices. Under the theme "Unlocking Innovation, Accelerating Business through Data Spaces," the forum set the stage for actionable insights and global collaboration. The DEPLOYTOUR project was featured as one of the examples of impactful data space initiatives, showcasing how sovereign datasharing can unlock economic benefits and drive innovation in the tourism sector, and was represented by several consortium partners.
